la biennale di venezia | venice italy
bice curinger, curator at kunsthaus zurich and director of the 54th international art exhibition at the 2011 la biennale di venezia, titled the exhibition ILLUMInations because 'la biennale is one of the world's most important forums for the dissemination and 'illumination' about current developments in international art.'  ILLUMInations presents national art exhibitions, accompanied by collateral events, at the pavilions of the giardini, para-pavilions at the arsenale, and at other urban venues.  to provide local context, ILLUMInations juxtaposes the works of venetian painter tintoretto, whose dynamic use of composition, perspective, and lighting revolutionized classical renaissance painting, with works of contemporary art that also explore light and composition. how enlightening!

even though it has recently suffered an identity crisis, with ever changing names, organizers, fair designs, marketing strategies, and dating guidelines, 'summer olympia', held at the olympia exhibition centre, is considered a business barometer by the british antiques trade and a vip resource for fine, vintage, and decorative furnishings by many american interior designers. (click here and here to read more about the ever changing identity of 'summer olympia'.)

Winter Fine Art &
Antiques Fair, Olympia

winter fine art & antiques fair olympia | london united kingdom
'winter olympia' is traditionally more classical than 'summer olympia' because it features more fine english furniture.  'winter olympia' usually attracts more members of the british antiques dealer's association (BADA), who often exhibit at the BADA antiques & fine art fair in the spring or at masterpiece london in the summer.  even so, many american interior designers (including moi!) consider both 'winter olympia' and 'summer olympia' vip events.
